Overview
The regulatory environment of mortgage and general insurance has made the role of the supervisor vital in financial services organisations. The Certificate in Supervising in a Regulated Environment (CeSRE) has been designed to develop the knowledge needed to effectively supervise staff in financial services roles and to understand techniques of management.
Studying the CeSRE will enable you to:
- understand the purpose and structure of the UK financial services
- understand the principles of management, training and competence, team development and performance management in the regulated sales environment
- demonstrate a commitment to career progression and evidence the necessary skills and knowledge to perform a variety of roles to a higher standard

Units
Module 1:
Unit 1 – Introduction to Financial Services Environment and Products (ITFS) L/501/8715
Unit 2 – UK Financial Services and Regulation (UKFS) R/501/8716
ITFS and UKFS explore the environment within which the financial services industry operates with an introduction to the main financial services products. ITFS and UKFS also focus on the legal concepts relevant to financial advice and the interplay between regulation and legislation.
Module 2:
Unit 3 - Supervising in a Regulated Environment (SRE)
The unit provides an understanding of the principles of management, training and competence, team development and performance management in the regulated sales environment.
Assessment
Module 1: ITFS and UKFS
This module is assessed by a 2-hour, 100-question, multiple-choice examination split into 2 units each containing 50 questions. You must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass each unit. If you don’t gain 70% in either unit within the module you will have to resit. You only need to resit any failed units.
Module 2: SRE
SRE is assessed by an objective test comprising 75 multiple choice questions (MCQs). The SRE objective tests are available at over 150 Pearson VUE test centres nationwide with the result provided on the day.
Studying
On average, students spend 160 learning hours of study time on CeSRE®. The complete course is achievable within 12 months.
All students who learn direct with the Institute will receive online and printed study resources that cover all the units that make up the CeSRE® qualification. Students will receive online access to the study texts and will also be sent printed copies of the study texts. The study text will also contain review questions and activities. A specimen examination paper is available to support your studies.
Please note that in order to reflect any changes to syllabuses, including matters arising from the annual Budget, the study materials for some units are updated annually, usually in July. It is your responsibility to ensure you are studying from the most up-to-date materials. The most up-to-date learning materials, updates and amendments can be found on my ifslearning.
